Fabio Capello believes that Sandro Tonali would have played in the Great Milan and insists the Rossoneri need ‘happiness and attention’ to win the Scudetto.

Stefano Pioli’s men are the Serie A leaders with nine games remaining before the end of the season.

“Milan need happiness and attention. Every match counts. At Roma, I lost a Scudetto drawing against Venezia who had already been relegated. Anything can still happen this season,” Capello told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Young Milan players have evolved. From Maignan to Kalulu. I don’t even need to talk about Tonali…Now they must prove the same in the final part of the season.

“Tonali would have also played in the ‘Great Milan’. He has personality, strength and he’s smart,” the former England coach continued.

“He is really strong defensively but also good in moving the ball forward. He has vision and moves the ball quickly.”

However, Capello believes that Rafael Leao is the player who shifts the balance in this Milan side.

“He is Milan’s most important player. Milan’s left wing is so strong, not many teams have the same quality in Europe. Theo has improved defensively and if he needs advice, he can rely on Maldini.”

Is Capello surprised by Olivier Giroud?

“Honestly, no,” he admitted.

“I complimented my friends Maldini and Massara when they signed him, he is the right player for that role.”

How about Zlatan Ibrahimovic? Will Capello offer him a contract extension?

“He must decide, but I see him very motivated and involved in the team. He is always convincing on and off the pitch. He can be decisive despite not being a regular starter.”

  1. Easy there Capello…that is a stretch so early in his career. Let the kid play for another 4-5 years & then revisit the discussion.
