Former Milan coach Fabio Capello told the media on Sunday morning that he, like Stefano Pioli on Saturday afternoon, had also experienced confrontations with supporters after matches in Serie A, claiming that he ‘didn’t get it at the time’.

Speaking at the Milan Football Week organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former England manager revealed that the incident occurred while he was in charge of Roma

Despite not being how he would have liked to have dealt with the situation, Capello claimed that the Giallorossi encouraged the coach and his players to engage in conversation with the supporters in the stands.

He told the press: “It happened to me once in my career when I was at Roma and I didn’t get it at the time, but the club encouraged it.”

On the topic of his former club, Capello was also asked what he made of the team heading into the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter on Tuesday, after the Rossoneri slipped to a two-goal deficit in the first game of the tie on Wednesday.

“I expect Milan to get themselves together for what ought to be a great match,” he said. “A quick and decisive Milan will be needed against Inter, who are in great form. If they don’t pay attention to the details, it will be tough.

“The defeat against Spezia? Pioli said it was important. Now we get to see the results of the problems that should have been solved between the players and coaches.”

When asked what Milan need to do in order to overturn the 2-0 defeat inflicted by Inter last week, Capello replied: “I don’t coach Milan, you have to ask Pioli this question. He will have his team in mind and needs to capitalise on his strengths and outline the opponents’ flaws.”
