Milan supporters in the stands behind the goal at San Siro had a ‘quiet’ confrontation with Stefano Pioli and his players after slipping to a 2-0 loss against Spezia in Serie A on Saturday afternoon.

The defeat has put the Rossoneri four points outside the league’s top four position with just three games to go, chasing Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio in fourth on 65 points.

Milan have also suffered consecutive 2-0 losses this week including the result against rivals Inter in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday evening, now requiring a mammoth performance in the return fixture this Tuesday if they are to make it to the final of the competition.

After the humbling by Spezia, Milan supporters felt they were owed an explanation by the coach and the squad for their recent performances, which they feel have not been adequate.

A lengthy discussion ensued at the Giuseppe Meazza, after which the supporters applauded the team as they made their way towards the tunnel.

In a post on Instagram in the hours after the defeat, Milan shared a photograph of their players listening to the complaints of the supporters, accompanied by the caption: “Together, through thick and thin.”

  1. I’m confused. Do other teams need a talk from their supporters in order to win a game against one of the worst teams in the league? Perhaps the ultras should have taken the pre-match talk instead of Pioli if they are so knowledgeable.
