Former Napoli centre-back Paolo Cannavaro hopes to see Lorenzo Insigne renew with the Partenopei amid rumours of a possible move to Chelsea.

The Partenopei captain has entered the last year of his contract with the Azzurri and his renewal has been a topic since the pre-season.

Insigne continues to impress at Napoli, who sit first in Serie A after a great start to life under coach Luciano Spalletti.

But the former defender Cannavaro has warned the Partenopei about Insigne amid the rumours of a possible move to the Blues in the Premier League when his contract expires.

Chelsea ready to offload out-of-favour duo and sign Insigne

“We all hope he will renew,” Cannavaro told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. “Times may seem short, but I signed three months before the deadline.

“My wish is for Lorenzo to stay in Naples, but let’s be realistic and I say that he’s a great player. It’s normal that he’s tempted by other great teams too.”

Daily Mail reported Chelsea were interested in the Italy international, who is nowhere near reaching an agreement with Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club.

In January, Insigne will be free to discuss with other clubs and the English newspaper claims Chelsea are prepared to offload Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to make space for Insigne’s arrival.
