According to reports in England, Chelsea are interested in signing Lorenzo Insigne on a free transfer and could sell Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech at the end of the season.

Insigne sees his Napoli contract expire at the end of the season and he is nowhere near reaching an agreement with his club.

The Italian winger is on a €5m-a-year deal at the Stadio Maradona and has demanded a pay rise. Napoli, on the other hand, would offer him a pay cut to keep the books balanced.

If contract talks stall until January, Insigne will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any other club at the beginning of the new year, completing a free transfer at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have set their sights on the 30-year-old who has two goals and two assists in eight appearances in all competitions so far this season.

The Blues’ boss Thomas Tuchel is still seeking reinforcements despite the signing of Romelu Lukaku last summer.

As per the same report, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are likely to depart Chelsea at the end of the season and Insigne’s move to Stamford Bridge would make their sale more likely.

Milan were linked with Ziyech during the summer transfer window, while Inter and Tottenham have also set their sights on Insigne.

  1. This will be a short term project for Chelsea as Insigne will be 31 at the start of next season.
