“I didn’t expect a similar scenario of what happened in China,” he told the Corriere dello Sport. “The symbol of this period are the images of nurses in various hospitals in Italy, with faces marked by fatigue and protective masks.
“It’s terrible. I want to thank them for the immense courage they show every day, for their dedication and sacrifice. We will definitely get through it, stronger than ever before.
“My relatives are still in Rome and this makes me suffer the most. Not being able to go see my father, who has been sick for about a year. It’s really bad. I’m constantly thinking about him.”
Juventus and Inter played the last match before Serie A was suspended completely and after the match carried out behind closed doors, the Bianconeri revealed that Daniele Rugani had tested positive for coronavirus.
Candreva revealed that he felt mostly sorry for the Juventus defender, but was also worried for his Inter teammates.
“First of all, I was very sorry for Daniele Rugani,” he said. “But at the same time, I was worried about us, even if I personally hadn’t met him on the pitch or in the dressing room.
“My biggest concern was to infect my family. I would have felt terribly guilty. If we respect the rules that are given to us, we don’t have to be afraid.”
The 33-year-old has revealed that he’s split about the idea of discussing the event of a resumption and the title battle in Serie A, with Italy currently fighting a battle of its own.
“It would certainly be a new experience [to finish the championship in June or July],” he said. “Maybe it’s not optimal given the heat and such a long break, but we’ll see.
“Talking about the Scudetto now, however, doesn’t seem fair to me. At this moment, the real Scudetto, for everyone, would be winning against the virus.”
