Hakan Calhanoglu sent a message to his old club Milan after Inter leapfrogged them to top the table. ‘They sense my quality and contribution, so I give my best.’

It was complete domination at San Siro, with a Lautaro Martinez brace, Alexis Sanchez volley and Calhanoglu rocket.

Serie A | Inter 4-0 Cagliari: Nerazzurri new leaders in style

Only Alessio Cragno kept the scoreline down with a series of saves, including one on a Lautaro Martinez penalty in the first half, as there were 15 shots on target.

“I am very happy to be here. It makes me proud. I want to thank the team, as they really help me to become an important player, they sense my quality and contribution, so I give my best for the club,” Calhanoglu told DAZN.

“I also thank the fans, as they are always right behind me. It is an honour for me to be here at Inter.”

This result, with Milan drawing at Udinese and Napoli losing at home to Empoli, means Inter go one point clear of Calhanoglu’s former teammates at the top of the table.

“We’ve played many games well, now we are top of the table, we dominated so many matches and earned our place.”

Lautaro Martinez saw his second penalty of the season saved, so why does Calhanoglu not take the spot-kicks, considering he has such a good record?

“Let’s not create trouble over that penalty. I can get them wrong too. We are a team, we are all together, we played very well and Lautaro scored two goals today. The team always comes first.”

  1. Yet another player performing at a different level at a different team.

He never produced this form at Milan even when he hit his purple patch for a few months during the few years he was there.

He even forgot to how to score free kicks which have nothing to do with tactics or positioning.

So often we see this with players. Players play well for one club, go to another and the performance levels drop, go to another club and the levels return. Or players never reach the same levels again.

That is why when a player finds the right conditions they need to stay put. Transfers can ruin players’ careers.

  2. As a Juventus fan, one has to recognise that he is playing at Italy’s second biggest club. Better players are around him as well as a proper coach. Do not hate him for getting more money and actually wanting to win things. That will never happen with Milan at the moment.

  3. This guy makes me laugh. He has gone to Inter but his head is still in Milan as he keeps talking about Milan instead of enjoying his time there. Looks like we’re living in his head rent free.

Probably the fact we don’t care one bit that he’s left bugs him. Poor guy is hurt.

  4. @SArcone. I am not Italian, and we consider Milan the biggest and most appealing club in Italy. Juve and inter with combined 5 ucl trophy will always be smaller than Milan. No matter what’s happening to Milan now. So sure that they will bounce back. From a football fan.

  5. @ SArcone Are you posting from an alternative universe where Milan have not been top of the table for the best part of 2 years now?

Sure they didn’t win the title last season and might not win it this season but clearly they are one of the best teams in Italy over an extended period of time.

This is the exact issue I have with all of this nonsense about “world class” that drives so much of the ridiculous transfer activity we get in football (specifically compared to any other sport).

The fact is we don’t know what makes players tick. That’s the challenge and why having top coaches is so essential.

That was the secret to Juve’s success over a sustained period of time. It’s how you won titles with such super-duper-world-class players as Giacherini, Padoin, Stuarari, Matri, Zaza; it’s how Bonucci and Barzagli turned their careers around when they joined the club.

Real life isn’t like a computer game. Players don’t have ratings. It’s about finding that unique combination of factors that lead to long term, sustainable success.

  6. Grass is just greener on the blue side of Milan. Big prop to Inter‘s directors for making quick and precise decision to replace the hole left by Eriksen. Inter are in a period of great form. It will just lift every player up. Scudetto is for Inter to lose. This is how the season will end:
    1. Inter
    2. Atalanta
    3. Napoli
    4. Milan

    Juve is somewhere below 6th.

Bookmark this page for my prophecy, y’all.

  7. O’Gabbs precisely you are not Italian. The irony that “WE” consider them (Milan) to be the biggest team in Italy. From where England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, USA or Canada? I am a level headed Juventus fan and do not talk nonsense or trash other clubs like some people. Juventus is the biggest club in Italy (36) with the biggest fan base by a country mile. It is the Rolls Royce of Italian clubs. We have double the league titles then both clubs, nearly combined as well. The most Supercoppa Italiana trophies too. But I am also aware of the rich history of both Milanese clubs. It is correct that Inter are traditionally the second biggest club in the peninsula with the second largest fan base. Yes Milan have 7 UCL titles and that is great, I hope you can get back to those past levels. Having strong Italian clubs is only healthy and competition is much needed.

Maldinis heir you are you speaking from Mars or Jupiter? Extended period lol. 2 years and you are ready to shout from the rafters. We dominated for nearly a decade. Nobody has ever done that and it will not be repeated. Winning is the only thing that counts. Over 4 decades guess how may times we finished out of top 4? 6 times. Nobody has been as consistent as us. Facts go look it up (1980 – 2020).

No Maldini we won through being better organised then the rest, being at the forefront to build our own stadium and being financially more astute then your clubs. You sold your club to Chinese con men and were bought by a hedge fund. As for Inter they have lost £2 Billion from Suning. Chinese government will not allow them to spend money.

That being said all 3 teams have their merits and learn to be more gracious. Also have some class.

  8. @Milan Fan lmao you sound more butthurt than Chalhanoglu. If his head is still with Milan then why is he performing so much better with Inter right now? you don’t get that kind of consistency and level when your head is elsewhere. You should know, just ask Kessie who can’t wait to leave your sh*thole of a club like Donnaruma.

You’re just bitter because Chalhanoglu raised his level after Milan’s fans talked so much shit about him. Right now all you have is an inferior replacement in Brahim Diaz. Hard to get excited when your golden boy has been terrible for the past two months, isn’t it?

  9. @ SArcone The fact that it’s been 2 years or more shows we’re not a flash in the pan. It shows over an extended period of time we’ve competed.

And the Juve side that dominated for 10 years or more is exactly what I want Milan to model themselves on. And the reasons Juve dominated is for the reasons you mentioned. It wasn’t about individual players but a well run club. That’s why Juve were so successful despite having some (not all) average players.

In fact that is the true sign of any successful team. Every successful team has won titles with bog standard players: Man Utd won the treble with the likes of David May, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville, AC Milan won titles with the likes of Rossi, Panucci and Massaro, Barca won titles with Valdes and Pujol.

When average players play like super stars you know the team is being well managed. The fact that so many Milan players lifted their levels after Pioli took over is a positive sign for me.

The fact that Calhanoglu “forgot” how to score free kicks at Milan shows that these things are complicated. It’s far too simplistic to say he signed for Inter so he can score free kicks again. It’s a confidence thing, it’s what he has for breakfast. We just don’t know.

  10. @Vieri

Your response clearly shows that the only sh*thole is in fact your mouth. Come back when you learned to have a proper discussion with respect.

    @SArcone
Yes yes The great Juventus club with their stadium and organization. Somehow it’s harder to win now that VAR is here, no? Controversial winners in Italy, eternal losers on the European scene where the best battle it out fair and square. You’re a little late with your oh-we’re-so-great rant anyway. Take a back seat buddy, to about where your club is back in the table.

  11. As usual Hakan bullies small club’s like Venezia and a down and out Cagliari. Unsurprisingly does nothing against Juve, Milan (Yes, yes, a PK) Real etc etc

Big man Hakan, I hope his wife doesn’t get mad at him.

  12. Ibra, pirlo, ballo, baggio etc. Some players have success in both milan sides, some players don’t.
But there’s one player blame the former team for his performance

  13. Ibra, Baggio, Ronaldo, Seedorf, Pazzini etc. Some players have success in both sides of Milan. Some don’t.
But there’s one player thinks he’s big enough to blame the former team for his performance.

  14. If you are a professional, you woll try your est no natter where you play. Have they once hold your salary? If you play with your 70% capability, would you willing to ecxcept the same piece your salary?
There are far better players who play better before joining Milan and got even better when they played for Milan and win silverwares here. We’ll always shared good memories with them.
Your unprofessionalism had always been there even before you joined Milan.
Stop biting hands that used to feed you.

  15. @SArcone. I respect your sense of judgment, but with the points you highlighted Juve and inter are nothing but local champions without international appeal. If with combined 55 scudetti you both can only boast of the number of Ucl trophies that Maldini alone has, then it says a lot about Italian football. I may have soft spot for Milan, but they’re the biggest club in Italy. For the interistas be classy in response. Hakan is only a wanna like your club.

  16. Milan fans are currently the most bitter fans out here in seria A.
I advise y’all to take your chill pills and get over chala, and as for inter, we’re far more superior to Milan par quality of players and squad depth and strength.
How can a Milan fan come out and say chala only perform against small teams, well maybe that happened when he was in NOLAN.
He’s currently enjoying every bit of his play and game because he has better players around him.

  17. Just fantastic how Juventini rap about almost a decade of winning the league, and then they couldn’t wear the UCL crown.
Maybe they’re just as a Rangers FC of Scotland class.

How can you be losing finalist for FIVE (consecutive!) times.

    JuPentus are just local champions.

    FORZA INTER MILANO.

  18. Discussion which club is better is funny coz now it shpuld rather be which club sucks less.

But to that Juve fan, quote Juve has been winning the only trophy that matters – scudetto has been prestigious ONLY in the 90ies.

There is bo title like Champions League winners, best of them all

  19. Hakan does have quality the problem has always been inconsistency and a habit of disappearing in important games.

  20. Yet another subtle dig at Milan… Instead of hating on the player, maybe check your ownership`s policy, team spirit and atmosphere between management and team.

Maybe their fans will wake up after enough players leave for free! Dollarumma, who next? Kessie or perhaps Romagnoli?

  21. Focus on the question. Hakan cannot be faulted for the move. Milan did not want to pay more and Inter needed to replace Eriksen. He got more money and he will win something this year. As for who is the biggest, lets be real at home Juventus, but abroad Milan. However no point dwelling on the past. Inter have the present team to win at the moment. Juventus will not go 10 years without winning. They still have a good squad with a few world class players. Their team has been built incoherently but as for Milan they have no excuse. All this talk about time and needing patience will not win anything. You cannot be serious about challenging when you have Diaz, Bakayoko and so many workman like players. Even the Inter bench is better than Milan’s. Come on Gagliardini is better then Bennacer and Kessie. That says a lot.

  22. Don’t care. Yes he seems to be doing well at Inter. If he can keep it up, more power to him. He certainly didn’t perform well enough at Milan, and if he was still at Milan he still wouldn’t be performing well. So Milan fans are glad he’s gone, and if he can do well in his new club, that’s great for him. It’s not our loss that he’s gone, because we had more than enough time to understand he wasn’t able to perform for us.

  23. @ricky

If Inter are so superior to us that Gagliardini is better than Kessie and Bennacer, then how come they couldn’t beat us earlier in the season. The post saved them a point at the death, and last I checked 1 point separates the two teams right now with all those Milan injuries to keep in mind.

Sure, they have a better squad overall, but that is some new level of nonsense from you.

  24. Solo Inter, Jarod KNowles, I miss, El Cid, dangerboy wannabe, sta mikia, quel puttana de tu sorella, and every other fake username you have.

    Read back your own message.

Strongly suggest seeking professional help. Having a tea won’t help.

Again, just because your whore mother spread her legs to every Italian and black guy on your rainy island doesn’t make you Italian. Capische, Limey?

  25. You busted me I am using The Queen’s Half Corgi and Poopie Zanetti. My new usernames are a joke just like me. I am 36 years old, have no sense of humour and still using the potty whilst being addicted to thumb sucking. I must also confess that I like women’s clothing and like young African men. I love rubbing my body against the sensual chocolat.👨🏿‍🍼

  26. Learn the difference between the English Flag and the Sardinian Flag, Limey.

No need to cry over Sirigu for doing nothing wrong

    🤡

  27. Why I am talking to myself again and repeating the same old stale things. I am running out of content. Oh well at least Peter is waiting for me and I am in my black and blue thong. I threw out the black and white ones. Too many previous skid marks from the previous games. 👅
