Inter attacker Hakan Calhanoglu explained he ‘wanted a new challenge’ and revealed how the Nerazzurri convinced him. ‘They won the Scudetto and play in the Champions League’.

The Turkey international left Milan over the summer and decided to join arch-rivals Inter when his contract expired.

He explained he’s ‘aware’ that the choice to move across the city was ‘particular’, but stressed he had to ‘look forward’.

Calhanoglu recently scored a penalty in the 1-1 draw with the Rossoneri, in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season, and celebrated with a gesture towards his former fans.

How the relationship between Milan fans and Calhanoglu collapsed

The 27-year-old revealed he still has ‘many friends’ at the Diavolo, but felt he needed ‘a new challenge’ and refuses to look back.

“I spent positive seasons at Milan,” Calhanoglu told 433. “I still have many friends there.

“I decided to go to Inter because I wanted a new challenge in my career. They are a great club, they won the league last season and play in the Champions League.

“I am aware that I made a particular choice. But this is life. You must look forward and not look back. I knew that Inter has always been a great team, they often beat Milan in derbies.”

Calhanoglu, capped 65 times by Turkey, has appeared in 12 competitive games with the Beneamata, scoring two times in Serie A so far.

Milan are currently first in the league, seven points above Calhanoglu’s new team.

  1. A new challenge? He’s doing the exact same thing as last season.. Competing in Europe, competing in Serie A.. Where’s the “new” challenge exactly?

  2. See, he doesn’t want to say he wanted more money and since a website or newspaper needed a column for the day, this one will do.

  3. I wanted a new challenge, so I went to the title winners. Surely less of a challenge then? Didn’t even move house. He will be looking for a new challenge in MLS or the middle east before long.

  4. A man with no morals. His celebration in front of the Curva Sud showed a lack of class. Milan haven’t missed Hakan. He’ll very soon be dumped by Inter and fast become forgotten.

  5. He says he is only looking forward, not back, yet all he has done so far is talk about Milan. I actually prefer him to play for Inter, it automatically makes Milan a better team, but he needs to concentrate on playing for them now and stop talking about us.

  6. Geez, at least be a man and admit it was all for a fistful of dollars.

Anyway, they might have been a great team and won the Scudetto, but that is until you joined them, so thanks for that. That last paragraph in the article says it all.

  7. Best move Maldini made was letting Inter over pay for this guy.

Call it a challenge , change of pace , whatever , in the end it spells out one way :

    CASH an HOE GLU.

Needless to say happy he is gone.

  8. This is the new reality where club loyalty is a myth, a thing of the past; These days money talks, and unfortunately 500K was enough to drop Milan‘s colors in favor of Inter‘s. Who is to judge?

I’m glad he moved on as he was never consistent at Milan. On again, off again sort of a stint at Milan. I’m glad Diaz took over as he is gotten better.

  9. As a neutral he made the correct move. Inter have the better project in place for now and players have a short career. Milan will be back but it is clear Inter have a better chance of competing at the moment.

  10. How is Inter the better project? They have over 800m in debts and can barely pay their players?

At the end of the day, he took advantage of Eriksen’s horrible health scare (I’m sure everyone is praying for him) and got paid 2m more than he would at Milan. His wages are 5m + 1m in bonuses, from what is reported.

I don’t understand why Milan fans care about him. They say they don’t, but they really can’t stop themselves from commenting about him. It’s very weird. If he was that bad, you wouldn’t care, but you do?

He makes as much as Barella, that’s the best part.

  11. @O2 I agree with you, as a Milan fan don’t need to comment again and again in this kind of article. Let’s just say that Calha, Donna and Kessie has been the past of Milan. Every time I read articles about Calha and Donna just made me laugh at the moment. Because I know, at the end Milan will always be Milan no matter who the players are.

  12. Jason, how is inter got a better project ? Conte left because they were not ambitious. They have debts far more than Milan . Anyway the season is still long . I know Milan won’t make same mistake of last season

  13. What the hell is happening!!!

He played two good games with Inter our of 12 or 13, why is he talking like he has achieved anything =\

You new challenge is still below your old Challenge by 7 points little boy, grow the hell up!
