Milan are reportedly ready to sign a new deal with Stefano Pioli, as CEO Ivan Gazidis arrives in Italy on Thursday to sort out the final details.

Pioli has been bombarded with questions regarding his own future at Milanello, as the former Inter coach has guided the Rossoneri to the top of Italian football.

Milan were struggling to compete with the best before Pioli arrived, but the steady rise has continued after the initial improvement under the former Fiorentina and Lazio coach.

Pioli on Milan future and Italy ambitions

The 56-year-old’s men are joint leaders with Napoli in Serie A, still unbeaten domestically and currently with 32 points after 12 games.

Pioli has an average of 1.97 points in 104 games with the Diavolo and the 10 wins in Serie A 2021-22 has prompted the media to demand answers regarding the contractual situation of the coach.

The coach was given the Lega Serie A Coach of the Month award in October and Milan are working to tie him down to a new deal at San Siro.

Pioli’s deal expires in June 2022, but the extension seems imminent. The outlet claims only formalities are missing before Milan announce the new deal with the Serie A veteran.

The report believes the renewal could arrive already as early as next week and reveals the Rossoneri CEO Gazidis will arrive in Italy to complete the operation and sign with Pioli.

  1. I’m still incredulous to the fact that #PioliOut was trending before he had even come to the club yet he’s led us to our most successful run in years. Irony. I never had a problem with him and he’s always had faith in the project.

  2. @Chris I’ll admit I didn’t expect things to go this well. I lost a little faith when Milan had that dip early this year, but let’s face it – anything had to be better than Giampaolo. With one or two clever transfers CL is possible again next year, but I’m not dreaming of scudetto yet.

  3. This might come as a shock to some, but there are still idiots who uses the pioliout hashtag from time to time. I know, unbelievable.

  4. Arguably the first Milan coach since the departure of Ancelotti to truly depart from the doomed 4-3-3. I think the team plays modern football, with excellent implementation of 4-2-3-1. The way Pioli outclassed Gasperini (a rarity in Serie A in the last 3 years) is worth an article of its own. First minute, the left back (centrally positioned in possession) makes an assist to the right back, who cut inside. The team is young, but I’m already looking forward to next year’s champions league. I hope Pioli gives Pobega a chance next season. As always, Forza Milan!

  5. The funny part is to look back at the time of his appointment and note all the disappointment about him coming on. So many people were upset about Pioli coming to Milan amidst Rangnik rumors.. Like “What?” and “This clown?!” Personally I wasn’t convinced at all by his appointment as well as others as his resume wasn’t all that impressive at the time. But I guess it just goes to show you that sometimes longshots pay off the most.

  6. Shame about Rino but I am happy for the guy as he has brought the players together but I think they still lack the depth.
