Atalanta are close to clinching a deal that will see defender Mattia Caldara return from Milan.

As per Sky Sport Italia, Atalanta have identified Caldara as the player to bolster their backline and negotiations are at the “final stage”.

They are believed to centre on an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy following “positive” talks between Milan officials and agent Beppe Riso.

The 25-year-old moved to the Rossoneri from Juventus in the summer of 2018, but injuries have ravaged his spell at San Siro.

He could coincidentally replace Simon Kjaer, who is a reported target for the Diavolo this month.

Prior to joining Juve two years ago, Caldara played two seasons in Atalanta’s defence, earning two Italy caps.
