Riccardo Calafiori has arrived in Italy and is expected to join Thiago Motta’s Bologna on a permanent transfer from Swiss outfit Basel in the coming days.

The 21-year-old is set to join the Rossoblu on a four-year deal, which will run until the summer of 2027.

According to reports from transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who broke the news of Calafiori’s arrival in Bologna, the fee is set at €4m plus bonuses. It is believed that Basel will also retain a 40% sell-on clause from any future transfer.

Calafiori’s move also provides a payday for former club Roma, who had also negotiated a sell-on clause at the time of his move to Basel last summer. The Giallorossi could receive a fee in the region of €1.6m.

The Rome-born left-back has had plenty of interest from Serie A sides over the course of the summer, most notably from Milan, who had been looking for a new deputy for Theo Hernandez.

However, the Rossoneri have not yet moved on Fode Ballo-Toure and therefore, a back-up left-back has not been a priority signing.

Instead, Calafiori is set to join Bologna, with a medical test booked in on Wednesday.
