Five years ago, the youngster came up through the ranks at Milan and has played 102 games for the Diavolo since his debut against Atalanta on May 30, 2015.

During the difficult times in Lombardy, the right-back has encouraged people to ‘respect the quarantine’.

“I’m fine, fortunately none in my family contracted coronavirus. It’s not an easy period, we are obliged to respect the quarantine,” Calabria told fans on Milan’s official Instagram account. “I have friends who have lost their loved ones.

“It’s the least effort we must all make and then we will get out of this situation, I hope, as soon as possible.”

Calabria has scored twice for Milan since and recalls his first in a 2-0 win over Roma in the Italian capital on February 25, 2018.

“My first goal in Serie A, at the Olimpico,” he said. “It was a beautiful goal with a lob on Alisson. It was a moment of great joy.”

Former Rossoneri coach Sinisa Mihajlovic handed Calabria his first start for Milan at 18 and he revealed he was ‘agitated’.

“After having come on as a substitute against Palermo, the next week the coach handed me my first start against Udinese [on September 22, 2015], in Udine.

“I was very excited and agitated, I was only 18 years old, but also very focused and eager to play. They scored twice, but we won 3-2.”

The 23-year-old has played 16 Serie A matches this term and recognises that he needs to improve to establish himself in the starting line-up at San Siro.

“I’m still young, but I have great experience. This year has not been positive for me, I’m not satisfied with what I have done so far.

“I must find continuity and stability, this year it hasn’t been like that.”
