President Urbano Cairo said “never remotely considered” selling Sevilla target Iago Falque, but M’Baye Niang and Adem Ljajic could leave Torino.

The Granata started their Serie A campaign with a last-gasp 1-0 defeat to Roma, beaten by a late Edin Dzeko volley, and face Inter tomorrow evening.

“It won’t be easy, as Inter are a very good team that many consider to be the main challengers to Juventus this season, but we still go there to play open and attacking football,” assured Cairo.

“We played well against Roma and sent a strong signal with some players given a fine introduction to Italian football, beaten only by an extraordinary Dzeko goal. I think we can do well this term.”

The last week has been dominated by speculation on Iago Falque’s future, as he received a big offer from Sevilla.

“Iago Falque is a very important player for us and we never considered selling him, not even remotely. In fact, we already turned down large offers in July. His departure is simply not an issue that needs to be considered.

“I like this Toro squad, as we have many new players with great potential and kept most of the old guard. We basically only sold individuals who asked to leave in order to play more regularly, such as Joel Obi, Afriyie Acquah, Mirko Valdifiori and Antonio Barreca. Torino have reinforced.”

With Simone Zaza and Roberto Soriano arriving on transfer deadline day and Iago Falque staying, it means Niang and Ljajic are on the market.

“Naturally players are never happy to be in a squad where there is less playing time. There are offers, the market is open. I said Iago Falque is a pillar of the team, but we’ll consider the situation for the others and see what happens.”
