Napoli head to Sardinia to play relegation-threatened Cagliari at the Unipol Domus on Monday, as the Azzurri continue to chase a first Scudetto since 1990. Luciano Spalletti’s side are unbeaten in their last six Serie A fixtures, and also put in a good performance against Barcelona at the Nou Camp in midweek.

Napoli rode their luck towards the end of their Europa League knockout tie against Barcelona on Thursday, but the Azzurri still returned to Campania with a positive 1-1 result against Xavi’s side. Attention turns back to their Serie A title pursuit, with this trip to Cagliari up next on Monday after another 1-1 draw against champions Inter last time out.

The Isolani are down in the relegation mire at present, with their six-year stint in Serie A under serious threat. The Rossoblu have only spent one season out of the top flight in the last 18 years, but Walter Mazzarri has a tough challenge on his hands if his team are to beat the drop down to Serie B.

Cagliari have shown signs of life since the turn of the year though. After only winning one of their opening 19 Serie A fixtures, they’ve managed to win three of their six matches in 2022, drawing two and only losing once. Even that was a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Roma, with the Rossoblu going three unbeaten since, including an impressive 2-1 victory away to Atalanta.

Picking up another three points against Napoli will be extremely difficult though. The Azzurri are on a good run at present and unbeaten in their last four games against Cagliari, winning three. The Partenopei are unbeaten on their last 11 trips to Sardinia, winning eight – including each of the last six.

Napoli have scored 19 goals in those six most recent away victories over the Rossoblu, at an average of 3.2 per game, only conceding once at the other end. Despite Cagliari’s improved form, that makes a 3-0 away win well worth a look on Monday.

Only four of the last 12 meetings between these clubs have seen both teams score, while Victor Osimhen is one to watch after opening the scoring in the Azzurri’s 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture in September.
