Leonardo Bonucci claims ‘I wasn’t clear-headed’ when he joined Milan and that he rejected advances from China so he could return to Juventus.

Bonucci made a shock move to Milan in the summer of 2017 but re-joined Juve a year later, in turn burning bridges with the Rossoneri and some sections of the Old Lady support, which have not forgiven him for leaving in the first place.

“It happened after my experience with Matteo [his son who was battling illness],” he told Rai 3.

“It was a busy year and I experienced things going against me. I felt something was missing.

“Then over time I realised that at that moment [of my transfer], I wasn’t fully clear-headed.

“My year at Milan let me grow, but I was lucky enough to be able to come back and I’m very happy.

“Above all, I received insults from 12-14-year-old kids. I was very sorry to see that. If a transfer was enough to make such a thing happen, I daren’t imagine what can happen to our children outside.

“I’d received an important offer from China, but I refused it. It wasn’t not for me.”

The defender was then asked whether he could see himself coach the Bianconeri one day.

“Allegri can rest easy, there’s still time. We’ll talk about it in 10-12 years,” he replied.

“Winning is the only result allowed at Juventus. When you enter the Juve universe, you learn that draws aren’t allowed.

“Agnelli is an exquisite and far-sighted person. He talks to us a lot. Eight years ago, our own stadium seemed unthinkable.

“Conte was crucial for my growth and making me an international player. He taught me a new way to play.

“With Allegri, there are almost always tactical tweaks that make us better, but there have also been moments when the blackboard flew…”
