Leonardo Bonucci has never seen a ‘team spirit’ like the one in the Italy camp at Euro 2020, as they prepare to face Switzerland.

The second Group A game kicks off on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

It comes after the opening 3-0 victory against Turkey, while Switzerland were held to a 1-1 draw by Wales.

“Adrenaline is what fuels us and I cannot wait for this game,” said Bonucci in his press conference when asked if he was tired.

“This group has the greatest team spirit I have ever seen. Over the years, there have been many players who took part and not once has there been a bad moment. When the new lads can come in and immediately settle like that, it means the group really is united.

“It is absolutely no coincidence that we are getting these results. We need to stay humble, keep our feet on the ground and continue doing our work.

“The desire for the Nazionale has returned and the coach deserves credit for that. We were coming out of a dark period in Azzurri history.”

The Juventus defender warns that Switzerland are not to be taken for granted.

“They’ve been working together for a long time, have important players and deserve respect. Above all, they deserve our utmost focus.”

With this evening’s games, everyone at Euro 2020 will have played at least once, so who impressed Bonucci?

“I was impressed by England for their attitude and desire to bring the result home.”

England beat Croatia in their opening match.
