The Bologna squad gave coach Sinisa Mihajlovic a large smile after visiting him in hospital following their surprise win over Inter.

The 53-year-old Serbian coach is still the haematology ward of the Sant’Orsola hospital in Bologna, undergoing a course of leukaemia treatment. The players decided to pay him a visit at lunchtime today, shouting support at the coach from outside whilst he looked out of his third floor window.

As collected by il Resto del Carlino, Mihajlovic was smiling widely as he shouted down in response to his plays, saying: “The other time you came here to clear your conscience. Today you have deserved it!”

The Bologna coach is referring to when the squad visited him in hospital following their 4-3 comeback win over Brescia.

He then thanked and praised his players for the victory over the Nerazzurri, saying: “You have made me ten years younger, thank you, I love you. Since I’ve been here you’ve never lost, see if you can do it sooner or later so I can get out! But if you continue like this, I’m happy to stay in.”

Mihajlovic returned to hospital last month and his team have responded on the pitch, being undefeated in their last five outings. Their next match is against Roma on the weekend.
