Genoa’s Andrea Bertolacci admits ‘I’ll always carry Roma in my heart’ after his former club eliminated Barcelona from the Champions League.

Bertolacci began his career at Roma but never made a first-team appearance for them and was sold to Milan three years ago, although the midfielder has spent the past season back at Genoa, where he played between 2012 and 2015.

“I received an important offer from Milan, which satisfied the club and I,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“[Sporting director Walter] Sabatini told me to stay, but I made a different choice. Having said that, I’ll always carry Roma in my heart.

“Roma’s comeback? They’re a passionate club, where the fans can be fickle. They can criticise you if things aren’t going well, just as they give you great support on certain occasions.

“I’m very happy for this victory. We must always cheer on Italian teams in the Champions League.

“My future? It’s still too early to say. I haven’t talked to Gattuso yet, but we’ll see.”
