Romelu Lukaku is not available for Belgium’s Nations League games against Wales and The Netherlands, but Roberto Martinez says the striker will return to training with Inter within a week.

The Belgium international has missed Inter’s last six games across all competitions with a flexor problem and is expected to return after the break in Inter’s home game against José Mourinho’s Roma.

He was not included in the Red Devils’ squad list for their upcoming Nations League games and the same is true of Milan striker Divock Origi.

“Romelu is developing and his recovery is progressing well,” Martinez said at a press conference as quoted by Il Corriere dello Sport.

“Probably, he will return to training with Inter within a week. We took a cautious decision. It is better not to take any risk because a relapse ahead of the World Cup would be very tricky.”

Lukaku returned to Inter on loan from Chelsea in the summer. The Nerazzurri don’t have an option to make his move permanent and paid €8m for his temporary return to the Stadio Meazza.

Beppe Marotta said last week that Thomas Tuchel’s sacking as Chelsea boss hasn’t yet brought substantial changes regarding the striker’s future. Lukaku was not on good terms with the German boss, which was one of the reasons why he left Stamford Bridge after just one season.
