Inter talent Nicolò Barella thanks Claudio Marchisio for calling him ‘a complete midfielder’ and admits the area where he still needs to improve.

He scored a spectacular goal in last night’s 2-0 win over Fiorentina, which allowed the team to temporarily leapfrog Milan at the top of the table.

“Every victory is important, but after a defeat in the Coppa Italia midweek, we did well to get the result here,” Barella told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s never easy in Florence, but we proved that we are a great team. It’s also true to say we could’ve sealed it earlier and made the most of some scoring opportunities, but we got the job done.”

Barella will celebrate his 24th birthday on Sunday and already received an early gift, as former Juventus star Marchisio praised him on Twitter.

“As an ex-midfielder, I cannot help but admire the constant growth and talent of Nicolò Barella,” wrote Marchisio.

“Such a young player, already mature and complete. Inter fans are fortunate, but even more fortunate is our Italy squad.”

Barella was shown the tweet and it was a proud moment for the former Cagliari man.

“I thank him, Marchisio was such a great player. I do see myself in him a little bit, even though he scored more goals than I do. I realise that I ought to score more and I can do better. I thank the team because they put me in the position to do everything that I need to.”
