“Now or never? It’s far too early for that. It’s evident we must try to win, but that is true of every Roma game,” Baldissoni told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s even more necessary now, as we haven’t won in front of our fans for a while.”

In two months the gap stretched from one point to nine. How did that happen?

“I wish we knew! The team suffered constantly having to change due to injuries, suspensions and the African Cup of Nations.

“We know that’s not an alibi, as every week we have a squad capable of winning, but it did affect the confidence and consistency of the team.

“When a side starts to struggle, the pressure grows and that really doesn’t help provide the kind of calm state of mind we need to get results.

“I think mentality counts for a lot at this level. When a team isn’t getting the results it expects, it can affect the legs too and they are not aggressive enough to fight for the win.”

Roma ended that run of stalemates with a 2-1 Europa League success away to Feyenoord on Thursday.
“Rotterdam certainly helped, winning helps to win and we hope to have got into this ‘vicious cycle’ of victory.”
