Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino has been hit with hundreds of insulting messages on instagram after his clattering challenge during Monday night’s game against Roma left Paulo Dybala unable to continue.

Dybala had only entered the fray after 64 minutes of the game in Bergamo, but was injured late on after Palomino’s tackle, with many supporters feeling the 33-year-old Argentine should have been sent off.

In the hours after the final whistle, a number of Roma and Dybala enthusiasts left comments on Palomino’s latest instagram post, which was posted over a month ago, with some labelling him a “butcher”, and others claiming he “should have been arrested” for the clash with La Joya.

Many made reference to doping allegations, after Palomino tested positive for having traces of metabolised nandrolone in his system in the summer, although charges were later dropped in November.

Other comments aimed in Palomino’s direction were considerably more harsh and insulting.

Atalanta have moved within four points of the Serie A Champions League positions thanks to the 3-1 victory over Roma on Monday and in doing so, kept their opponents from re-entering the top four spots.

With just seven league games to go until the conclusion of the season, the race for European football next season is well and truly on.
