Thiago Motta is expected to meet with Bologna chairman Joey Saputo in the coming days to discuss a potential contract extension ahead of Sunday evening’s visit from Juventus in Serie A.

Saputo, based in his native Canada, is expected to arrive in Italy on Friday and is likely to meet with Motta, whose contract expires in the summer of 2024, to negotiate terms over a renewal.

As reported in La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoblu are preparing a one-year extension to the 40-year-old’s current deal, which would tie him to the club until 2025.

Thiago Motta has been linked with moves away from the Dall’Ara in recent months, with his name cropping up in an extensive list of candidates who could replace Simone Inzaghi at Inter should he depart San Siro in the summer.

The report details how Paris Saint-Germain could also be interested in making a move for Motta, where he spent the final seven years of his playing career and began life as a coach with the Parisian’s under-19 side.

The former Azzurri midfielder could be tempted into staying on at Bologna, as he reportedly believes that the team, with the right additions in the summer, could aim even higher than they have done this season.

As well as additions in the transfer window, Motta would also like to see contract extensions handed out to a number of key first-team players, including Nicolas Dominiguez, Lewis Ferguson, Stefan Posch and Nikola Moro.
