Atalanta certainly turned on the style against Salernitana, scoring five goals in the first half for only the second time in their history, but the Manita is not uncommon under Gian Piero Gasperini.

La Dea positively demolished poor Salernitana at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo this evening, leading 5-1 at the break with goals from Jeremie Boga, Ademola Lookman, Giorgio Scalvini, Teun Koopmeiners and Rasmus Hojlund.

Only once before in their history had Atalanta scored five goals in the first half of a Serie A match, which was in November 1941 against Napoli.

However, the fans of this club have become somewhat accustomed to spectacular scorelines since Gasperini took over as coach in 2016.

In fact, Atalanta scored five or more goals in only 18 Serie A games from 1940-41 to 2015-16.

Since Gasp took over, La Dea have entertained their supporters with at least five goals on 20 different occasions in the top flight.

It is quite the build-up for Atalanta’s next Serie A match against Juventus, although Koopmeiners will be suspended.
