Atalanta have identified and banned ‘those responsible for throwing objects at Lazio goalkeeper Pepe Reina during the 2-2 draw in Serie A.

The Spanish goalkeeper was hit by a coin during the draw at the Gewiss Stadium and Il Corriere dello Sport reported the home side risk sanctions and a match behind closed doors after the incident.

At the same time as the Federal Prosecutor reported the racist chants directed at Milan duo Franck Kessie and Zlatan Ibrahimovic during the 2-1 win over Roma at the Olimpico, Atalanta announced they have identified the responsible for throwing items at Reina.

“Atalanta BC announce that they will, following the identification by the Bergamo Police Headquarters of the subjects responsible for the throwing of objects during Atalanta-Lazio, take action,” the statement said.

“[The subjects] will be banned from the stadium immediately, within the terms that will be defined by the competent authorities.”

The Bergamaschi thus made an immediate intervention to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The team are currently preparing to face Manchester United in Bergamo and ANSA reported the Atalanta ultras were searching for English supporters last night.

The Orobici ultras raided places in the city centre and a waitress was injured, while a smoke bomb thrown inside a pub called ‘The Ritual’.

The scenes were filmed by some of the people in the pub and the local police are investigating the incident.
