Davide Astori insists he did not turn down Lazio, choosing only Roma, as he reflects on the ‘sense of responsibility’ at the Giallorossi.

The defender was seen as on the verge of completing a move to the Aquile earlier this summer, before talks broke down, he signed an extension with Cagliari” data-scaytid=”6″>Cagliari and then within 24 hours signed with city rivals Roma on an initial season-long loan.

For the 27-year-old, the timing or manner of his move to the capital is not really up for debate.

“I have only chosen Roma, I have not refused anyone,” Astori has told today’s edition of Il Messaggero.

“It is never too late to arrive at a big club. Let’s say that the time is right.

“Cagliari, unlike other clubs, do not tend to sell players quickly, but let’s them leave when they are matured.

“And my past with Milan? On the discussion of whether I am after ‘revenge’, I can say that if I am here then it is thanks to the Rossoneri.”

Astori also faced a brief Q&A on aspects and particular characters encountered in life so far with Roma.

“I have noticed that there is a great sense of responsibility here. Juventus have had an extraordinary season last year, but I believe that this championship will be more balanced.

“Mehdi Benatia? I hope that he remains, I am getting on well with him. If someone was to leave, they will be replaced by someone else as good or better. I would be happy though if everyone stayed.

“Rudi Garcia? He is like they told me – he talks a lot with the players, gives advice, he is good in identifying delicate situations on the pitch and is attentive to details.

“Totti? I hope he continues for as long as possible.”
