According to The Athletic, Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna.

The Japan international has been followed by the Gunners for the whole summer and Tottenham also made a bid to sign the defender before securing the services of Cristian Romero from Atalanta.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are now working to finalise a deal for the 22-year-old who sees his Bologna contract expire in June 2024.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Spot reports Tomiyasu can leave Bologna on the deadline day, but the Serie A side want at least €23-25m.

Why Tomiyasu could be the next Serie A defender to move to North London

Tottenham had made a bid close to €20m earlier this summer and West Ham are also mentioned by the pink paper as a potential destination for the versatile defender.

The Athletic further states that the Gunners’ coach Mikel Arteta is ‘pushing internally for this deal to be closed.’

Tomiyasu joined Bologna from VV Sint-Truiden in a €7m deal in 2019.

He made his senior Japan debut in 2018 and has 23 international caps to his name.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the player’s agent is meeting Arsenal in London this morning.

  1. Good choice , if we can get Aquar as well , sorted. We have enough good strikers ,just not been good enough from the midfield backwards.

  2. Operating within a league that awards mediocrity and lacks meritocracy means Arsenal will most likely quadruple his wages. But the reality is that he is miles above Arsenal. If he was Italian, French or Brazilian, he’d already be playing for a top club.

  3. Clubs in serie a have no money, so you want him to wait for a 2 year loan deal with an option to buy to an italian club that wont make it past the group stages of Europe. LOL
