Juventus are still trying to shake off Arthur Melo and once again the only club interested in signing him is Arsenal, so negotiations resume.

The midfielder was picked up in September 2020 in an exchange deal with Barcelona that saw Miralem Pjanic and €10m go the other way, in what proved to be a terrible decision for all concerned.

Pjanic ended up going on loan to Besiktas after warming the bench at Camp Nou, while Arthur has frustrated a series of coaches in Turin.

Between injuries and poor form, the Brazilian made only 31 appearances in all competition for Juve this season, half of them off the bench.

According to Calciomercato.com, Goal.com and Sun Sport, Arsenal are the only club interested in taking Arthur off Juve’s hands, having come close to an agreement in the January transfer window.

Those negotiations are resuming and Juve hope to get at least €35m for him to avoid making a big loss.

Fabio Capello famously criticised Arthur on Sky Sport Italia, joking he “looks more like a rugby player than a footballer” because he only passes sideways or backwards.

They are also eager to get Aaron Ramsey off the wage bill and trying to negotiate an early contract termination by mutual consent so he can find his own next destination as a free agent.

  1. Let’s not forget we got rid of Bentancur and Kulusevski. And they turned out to be decent after all.
