Massimo Ambrosini believes criticism of Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo has been “excessive”.
Sections of the Rossoneri support have derided the Italian international for his performances, but Ambrosini believes they’ve been too harsh.
“It’s very difficult, but he’s shown he has the personality to handle certain criticism,” Ambrosini told MilanNews.
“In my opinion, some of the criticism he’s had to put up with has been absolutely excessive.

“The reality and the squad that he’s been in haven’t helped in the least, and he was punished by critics for things other than his real demerits.
“Now he’s already had two or three games where it seems like he’s regained his composure and he’s returning to the level he should be competing at.”
