Max Allegri is now the bookies’ favourite to be Inter coach rather than Antonio Conte, but it’s reported he could bring Mario Mandzukic in too.

Conte is set for showdown talks with the Nerazzurri directors and President Steven Zhang on Tuesday and it’s increasingly likely they will decide to part company after just one year in charge.

If that does happen, then Allegri is the prime and seemingly only real candidate to take over.

If that does happen, then Allegri is the prime and seemingly only real candidate to take over.

It would be a repeat of what happened at Juventus in 2014, when Conte quit two days into pre-season training, so director Beppe Marotta hired free agent Allegri.

The odds in Italian bookmakers even show Allegri as being the favourite for the Inter job in 2020-21, with lower odds than current boss Conte.

La Repubblica newspaper is already theorising his transfer strategy and maintains Allegri would bring in Mandzukic.

The 34-year-old former Juventus striker would be an understudy to Romelu Lukaku and is a free agent, as he terminated his contract with Qatari side Al-Duhail in July.
