Milan could have wrapped the title up last weekend, but were denied when Giampaolo Pazzini scored two late goals at Cesena to keep Inter in the race.

"I say thank you to him," Allegri added. "That is because he has allowed us to keep our concentration high this week as we also have the Coppa Italia to think about.

"Had we been crowned champions last weekend there was a risk that we could have let ourselves go this week."

The Rossoneri play Roma next in Serie A, before travelling to Palermo in the Cup after drawing 2-2 at San Siro in the first leg of the semi-final.

Allegri also seemed pleased with owner Silvio Berlusconi's commitment to keep spending his money on the outfit.

"When the President speaks of reinforcing the squad by gifting the fans new players then I have to be happy," he concluded.
