The No 10 this afternoon put pen to paper on an agreement until 2012 which ended months of speculation.

"The matter has been resolved in the best possible manner," Zoff told Radio Sportiva. "Del Piero is a flag bearer and he deserves to stay at Juventus.

"I'm not surprised by the decision. He is an intelligent guy and always knows how to conduct himself. I've never heard him make a remark out of place.

"I'm not surprised by the decision. He is an intelligent guy and always knows how to conduct himself. I've never heard him make a remark out of place.

"I don't know what he wants to do in the future, but I think he could do well as a director at Juventus."

With the Del Piero doubt resolved, Zoff was then questioned on Gigi Buffon and Coach Luigi Del Neri – who have both been linked with summer exits.

"If Buffon is fit then he remains the best goalkeeper in the world," added the 1982 World Cup winner.

"To have a goalkeeper of that calibre is a blessing for any side and Juve would do well to keep him.

"As for Del Neri, his future depends on how the season ends. If he gets Juventus into the Champions League then there won't be any problems for him."
