Mateo Retegui’s father and agent Carlos says he’s proud of his son’s debut with the Azzurri but insists it’s too early to discuss a potential transfer to Inter.

Retegui, born in Argentina, but with an Italian passport, scored two goals in his first two appearances with the Azzurri.

“I am happy and proud that Mateo is part of the national team and I am grateful to Roberto Mancini, his staff and all his teammates who have been helping him in an excellent way,” his agent told Sportitalia.

Reports in Italy suggest Inter are leading the race to secure his signature in the summer, but Retegui would cost at least €15m.

Currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors, Retegui was followed by Inter director Dario Baccin in Malta, where he scored his second goal in two games with La Nazionale. However, it is too early to talk about Inter or any other possible next destination for the striker said his father.

“He is totally committed to Tigre and the national team, he must remain calm and grounded. He should only think about learning and improving.”

Retegui has scored six goals in nine appearances with Tigre across all competitions this season. His loan spell ends in December, while his contract with Boca Juniors expires on December 31, 2024.
