Agent Claudio Vigorelli said ‘all the top clubs were interested’ in Roma attacker Nicolò Zaniolo, who aims to be back in time for Euro 2020.

The former Inter player moved to Roma in July 2018 and has established himself in the starting XI when he injured the ACL in his right knee against Juventus in January.

He recovered towards the end of the postponed 2019-20 season but suffered another ACL rupture, this time in the left knee, against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League last month.

Zaniolo is set for another lengthy spell out and his agent revealed he will concentrate on his Roma return and hopes to recover in time for for the European Championship.

“All the top clubs were interested in Nicolò,” he told Tuttosport. “Then the injury, the coronavirus pandemic and the new ownership changed the situation.

“Nicolò is doing better, we hope he will be back in time for the European Championship, but we can’t rush anything.

“[Roma patron Dan] Friedkin immediately put Nicolò at the centre of the project and we are very proud of this.

“He came broke through at Roma and I think it’s the right environment to concentrate on once he has recovered from injury.

“Then, we’ll see what the future brings. It goes for Zaniolo and for any other player.”
