Tammy Abraham reveals he had a feeling he would score from that stoppage-time Roma free kick to hold Milan. ‘I was talking to myself in my head and saying I had to be ready.’

The Giallorossi managed an extraordinary comeback from 2-0 down to hold the reigning Champions of Italy at San Siro in a 2-2 thriller.

They didn’t have a single shot on target until the 87th minute, when Roger Ibanez nodded in a Lorenzo Pellegrini corner, then Ciprian Tatarusanu parried a Nemanja Matic header into the path of Abraham on another set play.

“We know it’s a difficult place to come, we had to be patient as they defend well, they attack well and the chances are very small,” Abraham told DAZN.

He was in the right place at the right time and reveals it was no accident he was so close to react quickly on the rebound.

“I don’t know what it was, but I was talking to myself in my head when we got the free kick and said I had to be ready. When I saw Matic go up for the header, the keeper saved it, the ball came to me and thank God I was in the right place.”

Roma have started 2023 on the right foot with a slender 1-0 victory over Bologna – which was decided by Abraham’s last-gasp goal-line clearance – and this stalemate at San Siro.

“We are building more and more. I said before the break we’re gonna come back stronger, so a win and a draw, I’m sure it was a good performance today for the fans and we need to carry on like this. We’re in the right place.”

Abraham has struggled so far this season, as before tonight he had just one goal in his last 10 Serie A appearances and was dropped to the bench against Bologna.
