The Milan right-back has regularly been among the best performers at club level, but was only picked by Cesare Prandelli in last night’s friendly.

“It was great to make my debut and Italy played a good game,” he told RAI Sport.

“In the first half Poland were pressuring us higher up the field, but we kept the ball well and struck at the right time.

“The team was very balanced and we defended ourselves pretty well.

“I always try to give my best. If the Coach gives me the opportunity, then I’d love to wear this jersey at Euro 2012.”
