Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna confessed he “did not expect” to make his Italy debut against Poland.

The former Under-21 starlet had been called up several times by Cesare Prandelli, but finally made his bow as a substitute in last night’s 2-0 friendly victory.

“I am still so fired up, as I didn’t expect to play, but the Coach had told me that sooner or later I would get an opportunity,” he grinned.

“I will always try to do my best and make it difficult for Prandelli to make decisions, knowing he has options available.”

It wasn’t the best start for Ogbonna, who was booked during his 15 minutes on the pitch.

“I was a little too aggressive in that tackle, but the pitch wasn’t holding up well and I couldn’t stay on my feet properly.

“I am happy for Mario Balotelli getting that goal, so I hope he can score many more in future.”
