Thiago Motta praised Mario Balotelli and believes Italy have “a very strong side” going into Euro 2012.

The Azzurri impressed in a 2-0 win away to co-hosts Poland last night with goals from Balotelli and Giampaolo Pazzini.

“We have a very strong side that is growing with each passing game,” said the Inter midfielder.

“Up until now we haven’t achieved much and must keep our feet on the ground, as there’s a long way to go.

“We need to reach Euro 2012 in good shape, as we have the squad, but when the tournament begins then we’ll see if we can win it or not.”

Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi were expected to be the first choice pairing, but both are out for six months following heart and knee surgery respectively.

It gives Manchester City talent Balotelli the chance to step up and he took it with a sensational goal against Poland.

“Balotelli proved once again that he is capable of great things, as he has physical strength and immense quality. He needs to continue along this path.”
