“It hasn’t been a great season, but we are Milan,” the Italian international told Milan Channel.
“This year against the big teams we’ve matched them physically and mentally, and we had good results against Napoli and Roma.
“We have an obligation to make it to the Europa League, starting from Monday. It will be difficult, but it would be dangerous to start believing we can’t take three points.
“Our goal is clear, we have to bring the whole club back together. We’re very close to our Coach [Inzaghi] because he’s always supported us.
“We’ll work even harder throughout the week.”
Abate also discussed the fortunes of two former teammates in the Champions League last night, Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“I’m very happy about his [Thiago’s] goal. He’s a champion, and he deserves it as a person because he’s a great professional and very dedicated to his work.
“We saw yesterday that he held the defense together single-handedly until the end.
“They deserved it, and I feel sorry for Zlatan because it was not a red card worthy foul, and I know how much he cares.”
