Lorenzo Bettoni in Turin brings you the three things you may have missed during last night’s Champions League clash between Juventus and Benfica at the Allianz Stadium.

The Old Lady has suffered two defeats in the opening two Champions League group stage games for the first time in history and has only won two games from eight across all competitions this season.

Football Italia was among the accredited media at the Allianz Stadium last night and brings you the three things you may have missed by watching the game on TV.

Support ‘until the end’

Juventus fans lost patience at the end of the match, but did support the team ‘until the end’ as the club’s motto suggests. Even when they saw Benfica score twice and Mattia Perin save even more attempts from the Portuguese side, the Allianz Stadium crowd never lost hope and continued to push Max Allegri’s boys. There wever circa 32,000 fans last night and although one of the central stands looked almost empty, the other sectors were practically sold out, including the one filled by travelling supporters.

Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes go

Angel Di Maria was introduced in the second half, making his third appearance this season, but his glimpses of class where not enough to avoid a heavy defeat for the Serie A giants. After the match, the Argentinean striker seemed to ask Arek Milik why Allegri had subbed him off in the second half, but what you may have missed on TV is that the Argentinean and his compatriot Leandro Paredes didn’t join the rest of the team to apologise to fans under the Curva.

Max Allegri furious

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri was upset, to say the least, thoruhoug the game and after the final whistle. The crowd booed some of his substitutions, but during his post-match press conference, the Italian tactician suggested that he is not considering resigning. The Tuscan boss was so furious that after the final whistle he didn’t even shake hands with Benfica coach Roger Schmidt, making his way into the tunnel with his head held high.

  1. Allegri the coward always does that – all negative results (which is most) he always leaves straight after the final whistle, never ever fronts the fans. When they do win though he’s out there standing in the middle of the pitch shaking everyone’s hands like he did something amazing.
