Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola apologised to Italian referee Daniele Orsato after receiving a yellow card for dissent last night.

The Premier League giants sealed a 2-1 win over Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium last night, but Guardiola seemed really unhappy after the final whistle when he confronted the Italian referee.

The ex-Brescia and Roma midfielder looked irritable while talking to Orsato, who eventually decided to show him a yellow card. Guardiola had a surprising reaction as he hugged the match official before making his way into the tunnel.

“I deserved it. I apologise to him,” Guardiola said at a post-match press conference last night, explaining his yellow card.

It was not the first time Guardiola confronted Orsato as a similar scene happened last season after the second leg of the Champions League semis between the Premier League giants and Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.

Orsato is probably Italy’s most experienced referee. The 46-year-old has overseen 260 games in Italy’s top flight and 43 Champions League matches, including the 2019-20 Final.
