The chances of Matthijs De Ligt signing a contract renewal have increased as Juventus prepare a convincing offer.

The 22-year-old Dutch centre back’s current deal expires with the Bianconeri in 2024 and words from his agent Mino Raiola before Christmas seemed to suggest that he’d be looking to depart in the upcoming summer transfer window. Things have changed since then and the former Ajax man has re-found his happiness in Turin a little.

As reported by Tuttosport, Juventus are working on a new contract for De Ligt which could start with a lower base salary than his current €7m net per season wages, but with a longer duration and more interesting add-ons.

Developments are expected as this month progresses, with the Bianconeri working on a number of contract negotiations currently like star Paulo Dybala.

De Ligt has made 30 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2630 minutes. In that time, he’s scored two goals and helped the side keep 13 clean sheets.

  1. Big mistake de Ligt has not properly developed at Juventus probably due to the chopping and changing of coaches. He is ready for a new challenge and bigger club. Also he will never win a CL at this second tier club in terms of European status. There are many EPL clubs, Bayern and maybe Real Madrid that would take his game to another level.

  2. Patron clown, keep spewing your hate for Juventus. It must be really hard to battle envy everyday. Keep it up, it just means it hurts you to know we are the only Italian club considered as a European elite. All the better players want to come to Juve – Ronaldo, De Ligt or Vlahovic all wanted Juve for that reason – they were never going to go to Inter or Milan as it would be below their station as they are now third tier European status. Shows how much you don’t know about football if you think De Ligt hasn’t developed – clearly you don’t watch him play. His game has already reached a higher level as it always was going to working with greats like Chiellini and Bonucci.
