Lautaro Martinez was praised for finally breaking his goal drought in Inter’s 5-0 win over Salernitana yesterday, with Simone Inzaghi making ‘the right choice’.

The 24-year-old Argentinian forward had failed to score in his eight previous Serie A outings and his drop in form coincided with the team’s drop in results, but things changed last night at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The former Racing Club man scored two goals in the first half and one in the second yesterday to guide the Nerazzurri to all three points, key in this stage of the title race.

La Gazzetta dello Sport praised Lautaro for his strong performance, noting that “The cork pops. There is anger, joy and champagne inside the bottle.” Corriere dello Sport had equally high praise, highlighting how he successfully channelled his nervous energy into a good performance, feeling that he “unleashed a hat-trick like a true Toro.”

Inzaghi also received praise for his preparation and management of the match, with Corriere dello Sport highlighting how “Inter are back with their overflowing play, goals and strikers.” The media also lauded the 45-year-old Italian coach for making the right choice regarding his squad choices for the match, ahead of the upcoming Champions League tie against Liverpool.

  1. Scoring against the bottom team in the Serie A is way easier than scoring against Liverpool. This guy is over hyped – becomes a virtual ghost against the bigger teams.
