According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there were several officiating mistakes in Fiorentina vs. Inter last night with La Viola’s goal that should have been disallowed for a foul of Nico Gonzalez on Milan Skriniar.

Inter snatched a 3-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi last night, despite an excellent performance by Fiorentina in the first half.

Riccardo Sottil broke the deadlock in the first half, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, his goal should have been disallowed for a foul of Nico Gonzalez on Skriniar.

The Argentine winger pushed Skriniar during an aerial duel and neither the referee Michael Fabbri nor VAR referee Fabio Maresca noticed it.

According to the paper, Fiorentina’s only goal of the match should have been disallowed.

That wasn’t the only mistake by Fabbri, who had a tough night at the Franchi and was rated 4.5/10 by the pink paper.

The referee didn’t see a clear handball from Cristiano Biraghi on the edge of the box in the first half, but VAR could not intervene because the Viola defender touched the ball with his arm outside the box.

Nico Gonzalez protested excessively and was dismissed for two yellow cards. Fabbri’s choice was correct, but he should have booked Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni, who had grabbed the Argentine’s shirt, which is why the Fiorentina winger protested.

4 thought on “Gazzetta: Fiorentina’s goal should have been disallowed”
  1. I mean these are the rules now but there was barely anything in his challenge and Skriniar is twice the size of him.

Modern football is more and more becoming like ballet dance rather than the contact sport that it once was. This has led to players (also coaches and fans) constantly diving, screaming, moaning and bitching about every little thing.

We have physically strong players going to the ground regularly for the slightest contacts and asking for yellows to be given the opponents. There are players like that in every team now and it’s annoying.

  2. @Milan Fan I support Milan, but that was a foul and Skriniar did not dive or fake a foul. When you jump, the slightest touch unbalance you, and you cannot charge people at the back.
Still, the refereeing was terrible. The incidenc when Gonzalez is sent off is 100% fault of the umpire. It was a clear cut yellow for Bastoni, too bad Nico was unprofessional and was correctly sent off

  3. @ I Miss Juve …

I said there are players like that in every team now, including Milan. And of course I’d want a foul if it happened to my team, because these are the rules now. I’m saying it should never have came to this. It should’ve remained a game between men, not a bunch of softies. The modern game encourages players to play act and look for fouls instead of toughening it up.
