Dino Zoff wouldn’t be surprised to see Guglielmo Vicario make the move to a top club like Juventus in the coming months.

Media reports today suggested that the Bianconeri were gearing up to sign the 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper in January before leaving him at Empoli on loan until the summer. Vicario is one of the best shot stoppers in Serie A and seems ready to show his skills on the international stage, possibly as the long-term replacement for Wojciech Szczesny.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zoff gave his thoughts on Vicario and discussed if he’d be surprised to see the 26-year-old replace Szczesny at Juventus.

“No, on the contrary. Let’s say I’d also like to see a goalkeeper from Friuli back at Juventus after me.

“For what Vicario is showing at Empoli, the jump to a big club seems the natural step. But trust me, now let’s leave the boy in peace, let’s not overdo things with approaches to this team or that team.”

The 26-year-old Vicario recently earned a call up to Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad and seems ready to make the move to a more ambitious club than Empoli. This season, he’s kept five clean sheets and conceded 19 goals in 15 Serie A games for the Tuscan side.
