Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced that he is a new co-owner of Hammarby after buying 23.5 percent of the Swedish club.

Ibrahimovic caused a stir yesterday when he posted a video clip on social media of a Hammarby jersey featuring his name, despite speculation he would return to Milan.

However, the 38-year-old confirmed this morning he had taken over half of the shares belonging to AEG, which owns LA Galaxy, giving him close to a 25% stake in the capital side.

“I have been playing for LA Galaxy and I have forged a great relationship with the people from AEG,” he told Aftonbladet.

“When the possibility to become its partner presented itself, it was impossible to say ‘no’. Not to people who have been so successful in their business interests.

He then revealed plans to make Hammarby the “best academy in Sweden”.

“Hammarby is a fantastic club with passionate supporters and has great respect in both Stockholm and Sweden.

“I have always liked the club and the fans, and I’m impressed with what the club has done in recent years, both on and off the pitch.

“I will contribute with my experience after everything I’ve gone through. With my unlimited network. Whatever is needed, really.

“I want Hammarby to have the best youth academy in Sweden. Hammarby should get the best talents and nurture them.

“I have resources that can help and a network that opens up what is needed to be able to have the best academy.”

Despite his involvement back home, Zlatan made it clear he would continue his playing career abroad.

“I have said for 10 years that I won’t play in Swedish Allsvenskan. It won’t happen.”
