The Coach was sacked on Saturday after a 4-2 home defeat to Cagliari, a result that left them in eighth place. Member of staff Aurelio Andreazzoli took over as caretaker manager.

He bumped into some fans early this morning and they recorded the impromptu meeting on their phones, telling Zeman they were disappointed at the way things had ended.

“I’m even more so,” he replied. “August was a very different time. You had nothing to do with it. They told me I’d been fired on Saturday.”

The supporters asked if the situation was beyond repair and Zeman shook his head to mean no.

“There are other situations, other worries. We could’ve done better.”

Asked if he would now retire and stop working as a Coach, Zeman smirked: “They’d have to shoot me first.”

Finally, the ultras asked if any of the players had called him.

“Some.”
