Last Sunday's 1-1 draw against Sampdoria left Juventus with only a one point lead over Scudetto challengers Roma.

According to Calciomercato.com, this factor along with the team's progression into the second phase of the Champions League convinced Bianconeri director Beppe Marotta to invest in a striker in January.

This would be part of a triangle operation in which Manolo Gabbiadini, the Sampdoria striker co-owned by Juventus, is sold to Napoli, and Giovinco is sold to Fiorentina.

According to the report, Sassuolo is also looking to reduce the size of their squad to deal with the increasing burden of their salaries, which cost €4.5m for the strikers alone.
