Milan defender Cristian Zapata says he’s ready to return to the pitch after battling with injury problems.

The Colombian centre-back sustained a broken foot in a Coppa Italia match with Sassuolo in January, and has not played since.

“I hope it’s all over now,” Zapata told Milan Channel.

“After the injury I had the flu. I’m happy to be back with the squad today to prepare for Saturday’s match [against Palermo].

“I hope it’s all over now,” Zapata told Milan Channel.

“After the injury I had the flu. I’m happy to be back with the squad today to prepare for Saturday’s match [against Palermo].

“Now I’m working to get back into top condition and to play at a high level. I’m 100 per cent ready to fight for a starting spot in the next game.”

The Rossoneri are currently eighth in Serie A, and look unlikely to secure even a Europa League spot for next season, but Zapata insists there’s still time.

“There’s still time to improve. There are still 10 games left. Hopefully we’ll start our growth on Saturday, we hope to play well.

“I think these next games are decisive, and we have to do well because we are Milan.”
