Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo admits his ACL injury felt like “a hammer blow” but assures “I feel better and better with each day.”

Zaniolo remains on the mend after rupturing knee ligaments against Juventus in January and had been due to miss Italy’s Euro 2020 campaign.

However, he could be back in time to end the season with Roma if a coronavirus extension is granted, while the European Championship has been put back to 2021.

Zaniolo remains on the mend after rupturing knee ligaments against Juventus in January and had been due to miss Italy’s Euro 2020 campaign.

However, he could be back in time to end the season with Roma if a coronavirus extension is granted, while the European Championship has been put back to 2021.

“I feel very well, I feel better and better with each day,” he said during an Instagram Q&A.

“At the beginning it was a hammer blow, but after the first month things pick up because you see continuous improvements.

“The doctors have been keeping tabs on me via chat since the quarantine started. As for the rest, I’m doing the same things I did before.

“I play FIFA and Call of Duty, I’ve finished all the Netflix series… I miss the training ground, though. I’m waiting for this situation to end so I can hug everyone.

“The fans have been very close to me, many wrote to me after the injury and they filled my heart with love. I really have to thank them.”

The 20-year-old then spoke about his teammates.

“We often hear from each other, we joke a lot in our WhatsApp group. The most active ones are Spinazzola and Juan Jesus.

“We have a really beautiful and tight-knit group this season.”
